Considerations for Before and After Procedures

Don’t book an appointment at least one week before any major events so you have time to heal.

Clients may be more sensitive during their menstrual period. Please book accordingly.

Stop taking all blood thinners and aspirin products 48 hrs before your procedure (unless medically prescribed), including motrin, ibuprofen, and Vitamin E supplements. Tylenol is OK.

NO ALCOHOL at least 48 hours before your procedure.

Bring your eyeliner, lip liner and eyebrow pencils (depending on the procedure) with you so that colors can be selected based on the colors you like to wear.

Arrive at your appointment on time and makeup-free. Photographs will be taken before and after your procedure.

FOR EYELINER:
Remove contact lenses. It’s best to wear eyeglasses for 3 days post procedure. Lash perming or lash tinting should be done at least 72 hours prior to your procedure. If you wear fake eyelashes, you cannot wear them pre, during or post procedure for at least a week. Do not wear eye makeup for 72 hours post procedure and use a brand new mascara. Don’t use a lash curler until the areas completely heals.

FOR BROWS:
All tweezing, waxing and tinting of eyebrows should be done at least 72 hours prior to your procedure. Avoid any depilatory or bleaching agents pre and post procedure.

FOR LIPS:
If you have EVER (yes, even once!) had a fever blister, cold sore, shingles or chicken pox, it is recommended that you obtain a prescribed anti-viral medication from your doctor or dentist. Valtrex™ is recommended for a full 5 day course (beginning 3 days before your procedure, 2 days afterward). Please consult your doctor for further instructions.

NOTE: If you want lip fillers/injections (such as collagen or Restalane), get those first, wait at least 3-4 weeks and then get permanent makeup afterwards. If you are having a surgical incision (a lip implant) wait at least 6 months before getting permanent makeup. Lips are less predictable. Some clients may yield very strong healed lip color and others will heal with a 50 – 75% color uptake. It is not uncommon for lips to fade quickly at first, and then come back darker towards the end of the healing process. Lips heal in 3 stages: too dark, too light and just right. The process typically takes about one month to happen. No smoking immediately following the lip procedure. If smoking cannot be avoided, apply a heavy coating of petroleum jelly and cover your lips with your hand while smoking.

POST-CARE FOR ALL PROCEDURES:
If swelling occurs, gently place ice packs (frozen peas wrapped in a soft clean washcloth works well) on the treated area to minimize swelling. Ice packs may be used in 15-20 minute intervals for the first 3-4 hours post procedure. Benadryl™ is also helpful to reduce swelling. Take as directed on the label. You will be given ointment to use post procedure. Apply a small amount several times a day for the first week after your procedure. Apply with a fresh Q-tip for each application, not fingers. Do not let the treated area become dry and crusty, especially in the first 72 hours. Use the ointment to keep the area moist during the remainder of the flaking process. DO NOT use Neosporin™ as this will pull the color out.

Avoid for 1 week:
• Soaps and facial cleansers directly on pigmented areas
• Washing pigmented area
• Chlorine pools
• Retin-A on pigmented areas
• Makeup on pigmented area for 5 days, including non-allergenic
• Sun on pigmented areas
• Jacuzzi or saunas
• Shower with your back to the water to avoid water, shampoo and conditioner from getting into the pigmented areas. Have a sufficient amount of petroleum jelly on the pigmented area during showers. Do not rub treatment area, Blot gently with towel or tissue to dry.

Micropigment implantation may require a 2nd application to complete the desired final result. Your cooperation is also vital to the final results. In 5-7 days, the site may begin to flake. Allow the flakes to fall off independently. DO NOT touch, rub, scratch or pick at the treated site. Everybody heals differently, but typically it takes 3-4 weeks for the treated site to heal completely. Once healing is complete, you will notice that the color has faded and softened. At this time, we may determine that a touch-up application is needed. If needed, touchups completed within 60 days of your original procedure are included in your original procedure price. Smokers will not heal as quickly as non-smokers. The sun, tanning beds, chlorine and salt cause fading and irritation. Please limit exposure to these elements, especially while healing. If you can’t avoid exposure to the sun, using protection such as hats and sunscreen (after healing) will help preserve the color.
